What is zHarmony’s Tactical Re-Assignment?

A social networking platform, which allows users to build an open artistic collaboration using an interactive, user-submitted array of personal profiles combined with Rhizome's global new media art community database. zHarmony hopes their members find new perspectives, resources and working relationships, and are able to achieve outcomes impossible without membership.

Who will zHarmony members be?

As emerging technologies make their way to the forefront of contemporary art, Rhizome's user base becomes a viable resource group. zHarmony participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of art work by other new media artists, potentially being exhibited in art galleries around the world. Thus, Rhizome.org is an ideal supporter of zHarmony as they have an online readership of internet savvy users with an interest in new media art; a perfect group of potential collaborators. With the implementation of zHarmony, the Rhizome user base is expected to grow as interest and collaborative opportunities are expanded.

How will zHarmony be realized?

The zHarmony interface will be built with a PHP/Flash front-end and a MYSQL data base back end. The code will include a user login for tracking the returning visitors that may initially differ from the regular rhizome member base. New media artists using zHarmony will have a personal administration page allowing them to oversee and manage their profile, making updates, changes and new collaboration choices as the user base grows.

What is the zHarmony Exhibition Party?

zHarmony, in the spirit of promoting networked collaborations in order to inspire new creative endeavors, will host an exhibition party a year after it’s launch. We will provide a new forum for introduction and meeting as well as a showcase for artworks created through matches made on our site. We will, in essence, celebrate the marriages made through our uniquely helpful resources. We made the connection, but you did the rest. This is our congratulatory recognition of the many success stories to be.

What is the project timeline?

  • 2-3 months: front end / interface development (Flash and PHP)
  • 2 months: data management / back end design (MYSQL)
  • 1-2 months: user beta testing and bug fixing
  • 1 year after launch: zHarmony Exhibition Party
  • Continuously: video documentation/promotion

  • Costs for opening event/zHarmony Exibition Party - $800
  • Other costs (server, materials, research, labor, DVD/Video etc.) - $200
